Thyroid

Are you experiencing fatigue, anxiety, brain fog, irritability, weight gain or loss, hair thinning, dry skin, constipation, sensitivity to cold or heat, muscle weakness, memory problems, depression or irregular menstrual cycles.

The standard GP thyroid test often shows normal results, yet many of our clients come to us still experience thyroid symptoms.

The cause may lie in a small but important gland located at the base of your neck, just below the Adam’s apple.

Although small, roughly the size of a walnut, the thyroid impacts almost every cell in your body. It functions like the body’s conductor, regulating everything from energy and mood to growth, digestion, and immune function.

When your thyroid is functioning properly, you feel energised, focused, and balanced.

This imbalance can be especially challenging for those on the autism spectrum, women going through perimenopause or menopause, or individuals on the autism spectrum or those with PANDAS or PANS, where the body’s systems are already under increased strain.

Body Temperature

The thyroid helps control body temperature by regulating the speed of metabolism. When it’s underactive (hypothyroidism), people often feel cold, while an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) can make people feel warm.

Thyroid, brain health & Autism

Impaired thyroid function can affect cognitive abilities, especially in those on the autism spectrum. Thyroid hormones, particularly T3, are vital for brain function, memory, and focus. Low levels can worsen learning and attention issues. We often see thyroid issues for our clients.

Thyroid and Mental Health

A thyroid imbalance can cause symptoms that mimic mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and brain fog, making it important to consider thyroid health in such cases.

Which nutrients supporting thyroid health?

The thyroid needs iodine, selenium, and zinc for hormone production and immunity. Iodine deficiency is one of the most common causes of thyroid problems worldwide.

The liver also plays a crucial role in hormone regulation, it helps convert T4 to T3 and removes excess hormones and toxins. Supplements such as Milk Thistle or castor oil can help support liver detox and protect it from stress, keeping the thyroid balanced.

Calcium helps regulate thyroid function by supporting the activity of thyroid hormones and maintaining proper calcium balance in the body. However, calcium needs be balanced with other nutrients like magnesium to avoid interfering with thyroid hormone absorption.
